Welcome to St. Michael’s Church in Llanfihangel y Pennant (from its Welsh name, “Sant Mihangel). St Michael’s is one of the special churches belonging to the Church in Wales, visited by people from all over the world.

This site has been created for all those who are interested in this ancient and beautiful little church and who want to know more about the story of Mary Jones and the key part she played in the establishment of the British and Foreign Bible Society at the turn of the 19th century. For indeed, this is the actual church where Mary Jones was baptized, and where her parents had been married some years before. People still come to St Michael’s to pay homage to Mary Jones and to see the remains of the nearby cottage where she was born. You will find more about Mary Jones on this website.

We do hope you will enjoy this virtual visit and perhaps be inspired to come and see St Michael’s with your own eyes. It is a fascinating place, due to its long history and its superb location between the mountains, on the track up Cader Idris and down to Dolgellau. Even if you cannot come personally, perhaps you will support us in the upkeep of this historic building.
